Under-18s left-back Ola Okeowo was left disappointed after the sides 2-0 loss to Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints opened the scoring just before half time, before finding their second goal of the day in the 55th minute to round the game off and take all three points.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Okeowo says he felt there was a ‘lack of desire’ from the whole team over the course of the 90 minutes.
“I feel like we lacked desire all over, the whole team, the backline was too deep for majority of the game, so there was a lot of gaps and spaces for them to play through.
“The front three just didn’t really show for the ball, and when we could get it to them, it wasn’t really sticking.
“I think the midfielders weren’t able to get on the ball as much, so we lacked possession, we couldn’t keep the ball.
“I think it’s a good thing that it’s the first game, we want to get it out of the way and hopefully never have a performance like that again. We’re going to move on and hopefully go upwards from here.
“Today was definitely down to our own doing. We didn’t want the ball, show for the ball, the front three weren’t sticking and we weren’t making moves forwards, so it was mainly us.”
However, with the first loss of the season out of the way so early on, Okeowo says the team will now look to perform at a much higher level as they face Aston Villa next week.
“I’m 100% looking forward to Aston Villa, we want to go out there and perform much better than we did this week and move upwards from here, performing well every single week from now on.”
