The Canaries went into the match on October 8 in good form having beaten Blackburn Rovers 2-1 last time out, with goals from Mark Bowen and Jon Newsome, and won 2-1 against Ipswich Town in the East Anglian derby at Portman Road in late September.

In the match against Leeds, Bryan Gunn saved an early penalty from Gary McAllister, after Rob Newman had handled in the box, before Mark Robins latched on to a pass from Bowen to side foot a first time shot past Leeds United goalkeeper John Lukic.

However Rodney Wallace then equalised for Leeds United, heading home a John Pemberton cross at the near post. The match was won in injury time though when Robins crossed into the six yard box and Adams got inbetween two defenders to head home from close range.

The match was also Newsome's first against his former club, after he switched Elland Road for Norfolk the previous summer in a £1m transfer. The win moved Norwich to eighth in the Premier League table, level on points with the sixth place side.
