A stoppage time winner against Birmingham City from Onel Hernández saw the Canaries make it four wins in four and leapfrog to second in the table.
The Cuban winger spoken to canaries.co.uk following the win at St Andrew’s. He said: “The team didn’t give up, we kept going. We were not at our best today really, but at the end we got the result, which is what is important.
“It always feels good to score a goal for the team, and to work for the team. If I can help and support my team, I am always happy.”
The home side went ahead through Scott Hogan five minutes into the second half. A flurry of substitutes from Dean Smith made all the difference and turned the game on its head.
Hernández said: “We kept going after the goal, we’ve got good team spirit. From my experience, what I see every day on the training ground as a team, we are working very close together and we are a very close group.
“That’s how the success comes, you have to work as a team and that’s what we’re doing at the minute. Most of the time we had the ball, I wasn’t concerned that we would lose that game.”
The match winning goal scorer spent half of his 2021/22 season on loan at the Blues, making 22 appearances and scoring three goals.
“It was good to be back here, I had a good time with this club. They gave me a lot of opportunities to play to build up again and to become myself.
“I had the trust from the previous coach here and I’m still on good terms with the players here.
“It obviously wasn’t nice for them tonight, but I’m 150%, 250% Norwich City, no question about it. I’m happy to score for us, to help my team and my city.
The Canaries return home next to play Coventry City on Saturday, September 3, looking to make it five wins in five.
“We have to keep going, train hard, work hard, concentrate focus. We have a good squad, good team spirit, which is for me what it really means. I know we have a lot of competition for positions – last week I played and this week AJ deserved to play.
“He is a very young talent and he did well today. That’s how it has to work, if you get ten, 20, 50, 90 minutes, whatever it is you have to give everything.”
