Pierre Lees-Melou says it’s important Norwich City move on from their 5-0 defeat to Manchester City very quickly.
The Canaries found it difficult against the current Premier League champions at the Etihad Stadium and Lees-Melou says the quick turnaround for the Carabao Cup round two match against Bournemouth on Tuesday night is a positive.
“It’s good for the team to play very quickly after this game because we can forget this game now,” he said to canaries.co.uk. “We need a victory and to play in front of our fans. We need only a victory to begin our season.
“It’s very disappointing. We knew before the game that [Manchester] City were a very good team, one of the top teams in the world.
“But we conceded two similar goals in the first-half. The boss wanted us to stay more compact in the second-half but to concede five goals is difficult when we know what City can do.
“We need to work hard and focus on the next game on Tuesday.”
Lees-Melou noted the changes City boss Daniel Farke made at half-time, bringing on Bali Mumba and Kenny McLean for some fresh impetus. But, overall, he said City need to be ‘more vigilant’ moving forward.
“We spoke before the game and watched videos about the style of this team,” he continued. “We know City’s game on the pitch and it was difficult. We need to progress and be more vigilant in future.
“The second-half was difficult. The boss changed two players to bring on some more energy because we were behind the ball a lot. But it was hard.”
