Bio: Mark Bowen joined Norwich for £90,000 in 1987 from Tottenham Hotspur. In his first five seasons at the club, Mark played 170 games for Norwich City in the First Division and won the club’s player of the season award for the 1989/90 season. Those five seasons also saw him make two FA Cup semi-final appearances, the second of which, against Sunderland in 1992, he was made captain for.

So, he was already one of the first names on the teamsheet by the time the Premier League started in 1992/93 and in the inaugural season he played every league fixture and scored one goal in a 2-1 victory at home to Queens Park Rangers.

The following season he missed just one match – away at Sheffield United – and scored six goals in all competitions. That included a goal in the East Anglian Derby and a beautifully timed header at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.

He then played a total of 44 games, scoring two goals, in the 1994/95 season as Norwich City were relegated from the Premier League. The following season, Mark lost his place in the starting XI and his time at Carrow Road came to an end with him just one appearance short of 400 for the club. He joined West Ham United on a free transfer before then playing for Shimizu S-Pulse, in Japan, Charlton Athletic, Wigan Athletic and Reading.

Where is he now?

Mark was managing in the Championship in the 2019/20 season with Reading. However, despite leading them away from relegation danger with 14 wins from his 40 games in charge, he was replaced in last summer by Veljko Paunović. He was offered a new role as sporting director at the Royals, but turned that position down.
