Philippe Clement’s side ran out 2-0 winners against King’s Lynn as Norwich City kicked off their pre-season schedule at the Avant Training Centre.

On the performance, the Belgian said; “I saw a lot of positive things, after the first week of training.

“The lads were playing with tired legs, but that's what we want. I expected a few more goals. We should have scored more goals.

Mathias Kvistgaarden was withdrawn mid-way through the first half; replaced by goalscorer Luke Towler.

"Mathias \[Kristgaarden\] got sick in the beginning of the game, so we had to take him off fast.

“That didn't help in the first half and we were sloppy with a few other chances.

“But in the end, we had a good training week. They're all tired now. They all gave their best and we need to step on week by week like that.”

Eight of the players involved against King's Lynn were academy graduates or are products of the Canaries' academy pathway.

“I think it's early to say that they're ready for a Championship step-up, but they have a chance to prove themselves.

“It's important also to make this step in between academy and the first team step by step.

“It's the perfect stage to get them some minutes in the games, and like this to gain experience, to become stronger, faster, and then getting used to the way we want to play football.”

Preparations for pre-season will intensify next week ahead of Saturday’s game against Colchester United behind closed doors at the Avant Training Centre.

“A harder week next week so we can step up more in speed.

“It was really an extensive week with a lot of volume and lower speeds.

“Next week we can kick on with a little bit more speed than it was this week and continue like this week by week; make it stronger and I think the fourth week will be full power and then afterwards you can build, you can taper down a little bit towards our first fixture.”

Sevel first team players missed the Canaries opening pre-season fixture due to injury.

“We have several ones who are on the edge, who are almost back.

“We have a few back in training, so everything is on schedule like we planned before the pre-season.”
