Norwich City head coach Philippe Clement was disappointed with Saturday's 2-1 loss to Hull City on the final day of the Championship season, but had plenty of positives to take into the next campaign.
"The result wasn't what we wanted but I think for everybody, it was clear that we were the better team today, but we concede two goals that we should not.
"So, we made mistakes there and we came a lot of times in the final third of the opponent, but not enough chances or clear chances.
"We had a few and our finishing was not good enough, so those are things to work on for the future.
"I think me and the staff, we really got every drop of energy out of the team and the team did brilliantly.
"In the last couple of months they have worked really hard in the game and maybe you saw that also.
"At the end that we lacked some freshness after some really intense months, also losing a lot of players along the way.
"So, it's now about taking a short break, then we will have the players 10 days in, to work with them, but have fun also together, and then they will have deserved holidays.
"And for us, it's going to be picking up inspiration to make a study for next season."
With Kenny McLean out of action due to an issue with his back, Pelle Mattsson stepped up as captain for the fixture.
"We know Pelle is a warrior with good feet and he played again a really good game, but, of course, missing Kenny is a big thing today.
"He has well deserved the player of the season also, but those things happen and it was interesting to see Jacob there, who also did really, really good things in that position, at his age, so those are interesting things, again, for next year."
City finished the season in ninth place, eight points off a play-off position.
"It makes me a little bit sick in my stomach, when you see the way we play and that we're not in this playoffs, with all respect to several teams who will be in this play-offs, but I think if you start with nine points from 15 games, it is an impossible mission, maybe, or almost impossible.
"I will think back about certain points that we lost along the way and that's going to give me fuel for next season to make things better here."
