Reaction | Hoff Thorup - It's good to have the internationals back

Johannes Hoff Thorup said that he's almost back to a full squad following Norwich City's 1-1 draw with Standard de Liège in pre-season.

Captain Grant Hanley and fellow Scot Kenny McLean, as well as Marcelino Núñez, played their first minutes of pre-season in the game with Hoff Thorup happy to welcome the added experience back into the side.

"It was obvious for all of us to see that, the experience and the tempo they can put into the game," the Dane said.

"It was good for us to have them back and it was good for us to start working with these guys. I hope they think it's good to be back on grass again."

Onel Hernández and Liam Gibbs who both missed the latter part of the 2023/24 campaign through injury also returned to a matchday squad for the first time.

Both players featured in the second half at Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

"That's good again, they give us different options in specific positions.

"First and foremost, it's good to have them back and now we can start to build them up nice and easy so they can be ready for 90 minutes but it's good to have different types of players and to see them in action."

The fixture brought to an end Norwich's five-day training camp in Belgium.

Hoff Thorup feels that there's more to come from the side as we edge closer to league action on August 10.

"Overall, OK. Maybe not more than that. The first half was OK, we did well in our high press, we did well defensively," he said of the performance against the Reds.

"We didn't really concede any chances. Of course, they scored after the free-kick, that's how it is but I don't think there were really any saves from the 'keeper. Defensively, a good high line, they worked well together.

"Then, I think on the ball we did some good stuff but struggled a little bit to create the big chance or a big amount of chances. I think we had good control in the first half, second half all the subs and the heat slowed the tempo of the game down a little bit."
