Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup spoke to Canaries TV after his side's draw away to Blackburn Rovers.
Ante Crnac's strike was cancelled out by Andreas Weimann's header in the sixth minute of stoppage time, as the points were shared at Ewood Park.
"It's a shame, because I think we did so many good things from minute one to minute 91. We didn't create too much in the second half, but we dominated the game," he said.
"We controlled it and tried to open them up. They're a very defensive side at their own home, we have to open them up and to be good in our passing game and be good in our movements.
"We could've been 1-0 up after five minutes after that big chance for Anis (Slimane). I think the approach from the team, I really like. Just to throw it away like we did in the last two minutes is such a shame.
"It probably tells the story of where we are as a team. We do many good things, but we need that winning mentality towards the end to make sure you do what you need to do.
"It's not the age profile. It's the decisions. You'll also learn this in a youth game or wherever you play, if you're 1-0 up and one man up with two minutes to go, you just pass the ball and make sure you don't lose it.
"You don't commit to too many risky situations, that's really what kills us today. It could've been a fantastic day, a fantastic result and a fantastic performance but we throw it all away like this."
The head coach also spoke about Lewis Dobbin, who was forced off in the first half through injury.
The loan signing had started the game brightly for City before being forced to retire.
"He felt something in his calf when he was running. He took that sprint to receive the ball in behind and he felt something.
"Obviously, not too good. We will have to wait and see with him tomorrow how he actually is, but it's not too good when you feel that pain so early in the game.
"We will have to wait and see."
