Johannes Hoff Thorup paid tribute to his half-time replacements Anis Ben Slimane and Oscar Schwartau for their impact in the 1-0 win against Coventry City.
The former Brøndby duo were both introduced at the break with the game scoreless and played their part in Borja Sainz scoring the only goal in the 29th minute.
The head coach said that he was pleased with the level of security they offered in possession after a first half he described as unsatisfactory.
"I wasn't satisfied in the first half at how we gave the ball away in some areas where it was a little bit too critical," he said.
"There were possibilities for us to keep the ball and create chances but instead it was counter-attacks against. What we got from the two guys coming in was more secureness in ball possession so we could have longer attacks and push them to defend their box."
It's the first league win of Hoff Thorup's reign at City, and he's hoping to continue in good form after the upcoming international break.
"We're trying to tell a story here, to build a club and a strategy where we can get game time to younger players but of course we have to win while doing that," he added.
"You always hope that the first game you play is the first one that you win but that was not the case. It was good, finally. Especially for the fans because they have been behind the team in all the games that we have played.
"It's a big boost but like I've been saying after the games, there's a good spirit in the group and there's a positivity around what we are doing. They like to have the ball a lot, they can see that we are improving, from game to game we are getting better and better.
"A few days off but we're still in for at least three days next week, there's a group of 10/11 players who are back that we can go into more detail and work individually with them. We won't be wasting time here."
