Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup says that his Norwich City side lost their structure as they failed to break down Derby County early on at Carrow Road.
City would have to wait until there was just over 20 minutes remaining for Josh Sargent to get the opening goal.
However, the visitors stole a share of the spoils with a stoppage time penalty from Jerry Yates.
"We should have won but when things are affected by the goal at the end, you have to look at the performance and I don't think that was good enough," Hoff Thorup said.
"I expected a game picture like we had, we expected to be in control but we have to be more offensive-minded and more dangerous. It was not enough, what we created.
"We moved too much, we drifted away from our positions and our structure which made it a little bit difficult to combine with each other and get into those dangerous areas."
"That was a big thing for us at half-time to address that, the second half was better for us. We were more dangerous and scored a very good goal.
"We should have done it more. When you only have a one-goal lead, it doesn't take much for that to change. That was, unfortunately for us, the case at the end."
With Marcelino Núnez and Anis Ben Slimane back from injury, as well as Jacob Wright, Matěj Jurásek and Ruairi McConville all added to the ranks, Hoff Thorup is optimistic about the coming months.
"We still have to be careful but now there's much more competition. There's energy, competition and a hard fight in training among everyone. They all want to play, they're happy to be back," he added.
"Like I say, we still have to be careful with some of them coming back because it's difficult to step into a three-game week so there'll probably be some rotation on Tuesday night. But, it's good for us, good for everyone. That's exactly what we need going into the final part of the season."
