Johannes Hoff Thorup feels his side should have taken all three points during their 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship.
After falling behind in the first half, City went into the closing minutes ahead thanks to Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz.
However, Yuki Ohashi would head in an equaliser two minutes before the end regular time.
"We have to look at why we lost a little bit of momentum towards the 20th minute of the first half," Hoff Thorup said.
"We struggled to put them under pressure. The second half was very, very good. I counted maybe one chance for them and that's unfortunately the one they score."
However, the head coach also suggested that he's seeing improvements in the squad in terms of adjusting to the new style of play.
"Today, there was a little bit more freedom in the team, more running forward, runs in behind. I think we also took the chances in the transition moments of the game today which is a huge part of how we want to play.
"If we lose the ball, we have to get it back quick. There were some good moments today, starting with the first goal. We have to look at performance, that was ok. Result-wise, we should have more."
As well as City debuts for both Ben Chrisene and José Córdoba, there was also a full first-team debut for Gabe Forsyth who had appeared from the bench in the first two games of the season.
Hoff Thorup indicated that the application from Forsyth in pre-season and the early weeks of the campaign made it an obvious choice for the coaching team.
"It's important to us that we stay true to who we are when we play these games. We have an ambition that the team can be a little bit younger going forward so we have to make them ready and give them the chance when we feel like they are ready," he explained.
"Especially Gabe, who has done really well so far both in pre-season but also the first couple of games he's been involved in. That was an obvious choice for us to put him in today."
