Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup said he was pleased with his side's fight as they were winners against West Bromwich Albion.
Josh Sargent scored in injury time as the Canaries finished as 1-0 winners over the Baggies in NR1 and claimed all three points.
"We played a game based mostly on trying to get a result," the Dane said. "That was the main purpose of the approach today.
"At the moment, we have three injuries to left-backs so we have to find a solution for that. With a player out of position, he probably needs more support. That's why we have the three backline or the five backline.
"We've conceded chances from situations where we should never. This week has been a lot of work on defence, structure. But the guys, they fought hard for this one.
"They really did everything they possibly could in all the situations. They bought into the game plan that was a little bit unusual for us."
The head coach also spoke about the last block of games that remain in the Sky Bet Championship season, highlighting this victory as a good platform to build from.
"You go into the dressing room and you'll see what kind of platform this is. It's a good start and, I'll admit, this was not even close to being perfect from us but it's what we needed. Therefore, I cannot praise the boys enough.
"They really did what was needed and a bit more. When you do that and get a chance and Josh scores it, it's what we need from a top striker.
"I'm really pleased with the result and everything. It wasn't perfect and we will definitely play better games than what we did today, but I am definitely pleased with the result."
