Norwich City's Jack Stacey said that the team need to show a lot more after an opening day defeat at the hands of Oxford United.
Mark Harris and Cameron Brannagan scored the goals as the newly-promoted Oxford beat City 2-0 at the Kassam Stadium.
"Of course, it's not the way you want to start the season," Stacey said.
"You want to start in a positive manner, you want to start with a positive result and we couldn't get that today. It's definitely not something that we're happy with performance-wise, we've got a big week now to make sure it's right in the games coming up."
In head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup's first competitive game with the club, Stacey explained that the squad are still working on a new style of play.
"We're in a transition at the moment in terms of new coach, new faces coming in, and especially with the transfer window still open.
"You don't know what's going to happen but you can't look for any excuses and now that the season is started, we're running out of time. It's going to take a little bit more time but we still want to show more than we did today," he added.
Among those new faces are Callum Doyle and Amankwah Forson who both made their City debuts in the loss.
Eighteen-year-old Gabriel Forsyth also came on for his first senior appearance for the club and Stacey is looking forward to seeing them settle further into the squad.
"You always want to progress as a club. Each transfer window you want to come out of it stronger than when you went in, they're some good players and we're looking forward to when they're fully embedded and we can start to show on the pitch how everyone has come together."
