Norwich City defender Jack Stacey reflected on this afternoon's defeat at Carrow Road, saying the team was now playing for pride until the end of the season.
The Canaries suffered a 5-3 defeat at home to Portsmouth in their penultimate Carrow Road fixture of the campaign.
"There's not much I can say here, we're very disappointed in ourselves for the performance that we put out for the fans and for the result at home. Conceding five goals is not good enough at all," he said.
"You have to respect every team in this league, Portsmouth played some really good football so you have to say credit to them.
"They weren't a team that came here to sit back, they actually scored some really good goals and played some good football but there's nothing that we can be surprised by, the same with any team in this league.
"We feel like, at home, we should be beating most teams but you can't just expect that."
The full-back also stated how important it was that the players perform for the supporters.
"We're just playing for pride until the end of the season, making sure that every performance we give from now until then is 100 per cent us wanting to win every ball, not being out-battled, other teams not wanting it more than us and to show that we're still playing for something and we're still trying to build something.
"More importantly, for the fans that travel to the away games and come to the home games, we want to keep playing for them and put out performances that we can be proud of and they can be proud of, as opposed to what today was.
"There shouldn't be any sort of motivation needed, every time you're on the pitch you should want to give 100 per cent for yourself, for the team, so for the fans it shouldn't have to be anything external to get that.
"Each and every player has to find that within themselves.
"I'd much rather be scoring the winner or the equaliser, rather than coming on and getting a consolation goal. When you're on the bench, you want to get involved and to try and make a difference, so that's all I can do."
