Reaction | Wagner rues missed chances

Head coach David Wagner said his team paid the price for failing to convert their chances in the 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Head coach David Wagner said his team paid the price for failing to convert their chances in the 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Kelechi Iheanacho and Kasey McAteer got the goals as the Foxes left Carrow Road with all three points but Wagner was pleased with the overall performance of his team.

"Disappointing result, good performance against a top quality side," he said.

"I think everybody has seen this. First half Leicester were the better side, second half we were the better side - we readjusted at half-time tactically and how the players executed it was great.

"We had our opportunities, were not clinical and got beaten by quality. The performance was good, the shift, effort, we never gave up."

With the Barclay End almost trying to drag the ball goalward for much of the second half, chances came and went for the Canaries.

The woodwork was tested while Gabriel Sara had a free-kick inches wide.

"They really tried, worked their socks off, (Liam) Gibbsy should score, Kenny (McLean) was unlucky, (Shane) Duffy with his header, Ui-Jo (Hwang) at the near post was a good opportunity. Four very good opportunities against Leicester, you will not get 10 or 15 chances against them," Wagner added.

"It was a little annoying the first goal we conceded, it was too easy. We gave the ball away very sloppily two times which you can't do against such an opponent. Goals happen after mistakes, we have to accept that and recover now.

"We're proud about the performance, it was a great atmosphere, the supporters were behind us. It was exactly how it should be except for the result, so now we move on and go to Plymouth."

Next up is Plymouth on Saturday which Wagner hopes will see an immediate response from his team.

"We'll go to Plymouth and try to correct it, get three points. We don't have to correct the performance, the performance was good.

"We don't have to correct the effort, we only have to confirm it. It's in three days' time, we have to make sure that we recover proper."
