Interim head coach Jack Wilshere said he was proud of the Norwich City team's performance during their goalless draw against Middlesbrough.
The hosts came into the game hoping to take advantage of Coventry's loss earlier on Saturday but ran into a stubborn City.
"I thought it was an even game, a game of spells, they had a spell, we had a spell. I was really proud of the players in the desire they showed, defending their box," Wilshere said.
"I thought we were much better in that area. And we created some nice moments. On another day, Josh (Sargent) scores but I'm really proud of them especially with the week we've had.
"It's been difficult at times. Emotionally, they've been up, they've been down. To come here and put on a performance and, more than anything, the fight they showed, I'm really proud."
Wilshere was promoted to the top job for the final two games of the season following the departure of Johannes Hoff Thorup and Glen Riddersholm after the defeat at Millwall.
"When I was appointed on Tuesday, that was one of my main focuses, try and keep a clean sheet because then you're staying in the game.
"You might not always have success in the game but if you can defend your box and show a love for defending, and have success through hard work, that's a big step."
It was also City's final away outing of the season with just already-relegated Cardiff still to come to Carrow Road.
Wilshere used the opportunity to thank the travelling support.
"I didn't know what to expect when I came to Norwich. I knew that it was a big club, for home games the stadium is amazing, but the support we've had away from home, 3,000 at Millwall last week, today is a long way, thank you to them," he added.
"We're going to need their support in the last game of the season, it's been a tough one for them at times but hopefully we can finish it on a positive."
