Norwich City's sporting director Ben Knapper joined Philippe Clement in his first press conference as the club's new head coach at the Avant Training Centre.
On what the sporting director liked about the club's new head coach, he said: "He is hugely experienced, a prominent coach and honestly when we first made contact initially, I felt it was a stretch target.
"When we knew it was becoming more of a possibility, it was clear for us that this was the direction we wanted to move.
"He has a proven track record, made good impact in a good period of time, worked with clubs of a similar strategy; the work he did in Belgium and with Monaco will be on a different level but it was the same type of task.
"His leadership, the work he has done on the physical side, that was a big strength, and he's been there and done it and taken over teams in this situation where we are right now, so it was a natural choice for us."
Knapper was asked to share his thoughts on the club's current league position and whether he was feeling the pressure of this appointment.
"We have played less than a third of the season, there is still a lot of football to be played, so of course there needs to be an impact.
"We're not sat here in February or March, we're sure that we can get there.
"It is not going to happen overnight, we think that in the not too distant future, we can be in a completely different space.
"It's not about me for myself, it's about the club; my job here is not to protect my situation or protect my interests.
"We're not where we need to be right now, nobody feels that more than me but it is not a situation I think about. I just try and work as hard as I can to get the club to a better place."
When asked about any other changes within the backroom staff, Knapper said: "It's possible there could be some changes still, we're working through that. Tony Roberts might be one that moves on."
On other candidates involved in the recruitment process, he said: "It's normal for there to be lots of noise; you start with a long list, you filter down to a short one, you have a process, the process then filters to the latter stages but you have to protect yourself in case it's not viable to bring in your first choice.
"At no point was the role formally offered to anyone else, that was only offered to one person and he is sat to my right here."
He was full of praise for the support from fans in the last few months in his final message: "The fans have been unbelievable all season even in difficult moments, for example, selling out tomorrow with 2,000 fans travelling to Birmingham.
"We need to pull together now and focus on a solution; climbing up the table and that's what everyone in this building is trying to do.
"We're all just focused on that going forward, it can't happen with a disconnection and hopefully we can try to focus on what lies ahead."
