Jakov Medić spoke to CanariesTV following his switch to Norwich City from Dutch side Ajax.
Jakov, welcome to Norwich City. How happy are you to get the deal done?
"I'm really happy to come here to sign for this club. An historic club, a club who has been many times in the Premier League. A club I know that are really good and I'm really happy to be here."
What conversations did you have with the sporting director and the head coach to convince you that this was the right place for you?
"From the first moment that they contacted me and my agent, we spoke and I was really happy that they want me and they've followed me for a long time. For me, it's a really good step. I've always had a wish to play here in England, so I didn't think so much about this decision to become a player at Norwich."
How has you day been so far? It's been a busy one, as you flew in late last night?
"Yesterday morning, I arrived here with my family and agent. I had time to see the city and earlier today, I started to work on medical checks and met with people from the club about contracts and everything is going well."
What did you think of the city when you had a look around?
"It's a nice city, it's not like Hamburg or Amsterdam where I've lived before. A nice city, with nice people. I saw a lot of interesting spots to see, but first of all I am here to play football and try to bring Norwich where everybody wants to be."
What was your knowledge of English football like before, as you say you've always wanted to play in England?
"We know that England made football and it has, maybe, the best league in the world in the Premier League. It's interesting football, especially for me and my type of player and I hope I can pass in this club and in this league and really show my quality next season."
What is different that you might need to develop from playing in Germany or the Netherlands compared to England?
"I played for five or six years in Germany, so I know that league really good and I also like that league. One of my dreams was also to play in the Bundesliga, which was last year. The other dream is the Premier League and Championship, as both leagues are really, really good. There's big clubs, big names. I think in the Netherlands, it's more technical and the Bundesliga is a stronger league and more open league, more goals. I think England is a tough league, a strong league, many games with strong players and individual players, so I'm really excited to try and feel this league, the fans and the stadiums."
What will you, as a player, bring to the squad?
"What you can see from me in the first moment, I'm tall and I'm strong. I like to defend a lot and to protect the goal, but I like to play football. I've played in good teams, I've played for Ajax who are one of the best teams in the world when we speak about football. I really enjoy to be on the pitch to help the team, enjoy it with the fans and to win us many more games. I hope I can only bring good things to this club."
We've seen your goal of the season winner at Ajax, is that something we can expect more of here?
"These are things that I'm not used to be doing! I'm a defender and I always try to defend and not so much to score, but if there's opportunities to score goals from corners or shooting from distance, I will always try. I want to focus on not conceding goals next season and if I can help at the front, then sure I will be happy to help."
We already have a Croatian player here, Ante Crnac. Is he someone that you looked at to help you settle in, as you come from a similar background?
"Unfortunately, Ante I don't know personally but I've heard about him and he's playing for the national team of Croatia. I've heard many good things about him, that he's a really good player and I'm really happy to meet him. Of course, he is Croatian so I hope that we will be good friends and together can help other players and people in the club for next season that we're in a good position."
What are your hopes for the upcoming season?
"For me, it's to play much more games and to win many games, not to concede many goals. I saw last season that the club scored a lot of goals but also conceded many goals. I hope that we can protect that and I think I am here because of that, so I will give my best. In the end, we all know what we want to do and try to go into the Premier League. We don't want to put pressure on ourselves, we need to enjoy every moment and every game."
