On Friday, November 21, Norwich City's new head coach Philippe Clement was formally introduced with a press conference at the Avant Training Centre.
The Belgian was joined by sporting director Ben Knapper to discuss his introduction to the club, his first days with the squad and much more.
Introduction to the club
Clement opened his media duties by addressing questions about the process that led to his appointment.
He also highlighted the first few days he has now spent around the club and the work that he, and Stephan Van Der Heyden, have done with the existing staff.
"A lot of people ask me that. I don't think, two weeks ago, I would have done it. It started with having contact between Ben and my agent," Clement explained.
"They sent me some videos about infrastructure and then we had our first talk, I was talking to a few teams. It was a good talk, four or five hours, there was a lot of people from the club. Everyone was honest about the situation, what they needed, I also said what I thought about it and my ideas to improve things. We were very aligned and kept talking over the next days.
"At the end, I had a long talk with the others which is important to see what their plans are. I was very excited about the potential of the club."
In terms of the changes he plans to make, he said that a difference is already being made by having new people in the roles.
"There is already a difference now. There will always be a difference if you come into a building with another way of working. Players are already picking up things. Does it mean we're suddenly going to have free-flowing football and destroy everybody? That's not how it works.
"Nobody is happy with where the team is and the amount of points, not the fans, the players, the directors, the owners. It's now about seeing the season as a marathon, it's about where you end it. There's 30-plus games still to go, we need to implement everything as fast as possible, that's the first goal.
"There's nobody that will put me under more pressure than I put myself. We'll go full for the three points in Birmingham, I know it's a big task. We need to make our team better and get used to everything we're asking them.
"All of the time I have been manager, it's almost all with teams playing European football and with normally 12 to 18 players playing international football. That's as many games as the Championship. I know the league, I know managers who have been in the league like Vincent Kompany. Things can change very fast, up and down, the team who finished third last season are also around the bottom. It's competitive but I like a challenge in life. I'm looking forward to this journey together."
Time away from football
It's now nine months since Clement left Glasgow Rangers and he has spoken about his discussions with other teams.
He offered some insight into his decision not to return to football until now, with a surgical procedure in the summer prolonging that wait.
"I'm not somebody who opens up his private life, people in Belgium maybe know but not here. I took some time with my family, some trips with my wife and kids," he said.
"In the summer, I planned to start working again but I got a lot of pain in my hip, something to do with playing a lot of football. It was unbearable so I went to a specialist and he said I needed an operation, I could not go on like that.
"That operation for a new hip was in August, my rehab was three months. Then I started talking with teams again. I didn't want to go into a job if I couldn't do it fully, invest myself 24 hours a day, seven days a week. That's why I needed more time."
Supporters
The head coach also sent a message to the supporters about the demands he has for the players.
And how excited he is about the chance to get out in front of them at Carrow Road twice in the next week.
"I demand to the players to give their life on the pitch, I hope that the fans recognise that and we get that synergy again. It starts first from the players but that's an important part of this. It's not the first time that it's happened, I've been in clubs a few teams in the season where the situation is not what the expectations were in the club.
"The people in the club have been open and honest about the difficulties. It's easy to sell your club to get the manager in with the good things, they haven't done that. I can't do it alone, together we can change this situation."
Squad
The 51-year-old also fielded some questions about the existing squad and his thoughts on the players he has worked with.
Clement said that it would be unfair to offer an assessment after just four days of work but is keen to ensure that his four pillars of technical, physical, tactical, mental are adopted as quickly as possible.
"I'm four days in the building, I stepped in with a white page for everybody. We're also missing nine players so it's only a part of the squad that I've seen. I'm convinced from what I've seen in the games this season that this squad is not where they should be and there's work to be done.
"I can't offer an evaluation after four days, I wouldn't like if someone did that to me. I gave everybody a questionnaire yesterday, this evening I will go through it with the staff.
"Normally in a training camp, you have individual talks with all the players, things to improve, things they are doing well, their personal life, all these things, we don't have time for that. It's not just about how they kick a ball, it's everything around them.
"The defensive principals and offensive principals, we've worked on. The attitude, a never give up mentality. You can't do anything about things that have happened before. If you make a mistake, what is the reaction. Too many players need two, three, five seconds in the past weeks, I want fast reactions.
"I want the team to stay solid with a lot of communication together, to make each other better. I don't just want two players talking, it has to be everyone. I won't say too much because I'm sure my colleague in Birmingham will be watching."
