Norwich City have been beaten 2-1 by Fulham in the third round of the Carabao Cup at Craven Cottage.
A much-changed Norwich team put in a strong performance against the Premier League opposition but could not build on Borja Sainz's debut goal as they searched for an equaliser.
Earlier, Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi had given the Cottagers a two-goal advantage.
The hosts opted for a strong lineup while David Wagner made nine changes to the team that played Plymouth on Saturday.
The power in the Fulham team showed early on with Tom Cairney and Joao Palhinha in particular controlling midfield.
The opening goal came from Vinicius in the 12th minute, the former Tottenham Hotspur man put the finishing touches on a dangerous free-kick into the box.
Norwich had a great chance to equalise through Tony Springett when Przemysław Płacheta lost Timothy Castagne and pulled the ball back but Springett was wide of the mark.
Sam McCallum came close with a header too but Marek Rodak was equal to it.
While Fulham continued to dominate the ball, it was the Canaries making the chances. Rodak again making a save, this time to deny Ui-Jo Hwang.
However, Norwich's willingness to push bodies forward almost led to a second for Vinicius five minutes before the break. His half-volley was off-target.
After the interval, Norwich started well and had the first real opportunity of the half when McCallum danced through but couldn't curl his effort back inside the post.
A Kellen Fisher volley from 25 yards had Rodak scrambling but the post came to his rescue in the 51st minute.
Springett had another opportunity but the cross was just inches too far ahead for him to get the required connection.
Iwobi then made it 2-0 with 72 minutes on the clock, finishing from the edge of the penalty area.
Sainz was introduced in the 62nd minute and bagged his first goal in Norwich colours just over 10 minutes later.
City had to open up to chase the equaliser and George Long got a strong hand on Rodrigo Muniz's header to keep the deficit at one.
Sainz continued to look lively to the end, making darting runs across the Fulham back four but an equaliser was just out of reach.
Norwich's Carabao Cup run comes to an end and attention now turns back to the league on Saturday.
