Norwich City have suffered a 6-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Pilgrims had built up a 4-0 lead by the break, leaving far too much for the Canaries to do following the interval.

Morgan Whittaker scored two of his three in the first half while Dan Scarr and Finn Azaz also found the net.

They extended the lead in the second half before Adam Idah scored twice in five minutes for Norwich. Luke Cundle added their sixth in the final minute of added time.

Gabriel Sara was first to test his range, hammering an effort from 25 yards that Conor Hazard was able to punch to safety.

That was quickly followed by Angus Gunn making a quick-fire double save from Joe Edwards and Jordan Houghton.

However, Gunn was helpless to prevent the home side going ahead after quarter of an hour.

Whittaker finished smartly into the bottom corner after Hardie won possession high up the field and found him with a pass.

Norwich tried to respond immediately with a Kenny McLean cross causing problems for Hazard but evading everyone in a yellow jersey too.

A short free-kick provided Plymouth's second in the 35th minute. Azaz and Bali Mumba linked up on the right before the first effort came back off the crossbar to Scarr who slotted it home.

Norwich were then hit with a double blow in first-half injury-time.

First, Whittaker picked up his second, beating Gunn from the edge of the box before Azaz got Plymouth's fourth immediately after.

The hosts got the first opportunity of the second half but Gunn made a good save with his foot to deny Whittaker.

He would complete his hat-trick before the hour when he made it 5-0 to Argyle.

Idah pulled one back with 20 minutes remaining as Norwich continued to push forward.

His second came from the penalty spot in the 78th minute when Mumba took down Onel Hernández.

Plymouth got their sixth on the counter-attack in the seventh added minute, substitute Cundle getting on the scoresheet.
