Norwich City defender Sam Byram has given his post-match reaction to canaries.co.uk following Sunday's 4-0 defeat at home to West Ham United.
“Before the game, we spoke about not letting the fact we’ve been relegated take away from our fight, our desire and our willingness to play, to show a bit of pride in what we’re doing," he said.
"It’s a very frustrating afternoon to concede four the way we did at home. You can tell that the fans aren’t happy and they’ve got a right to be. We can’t keep conceding goals like that and lose in the manner that we did in front of our home crowd.
“I’ve not seen the goals back and it all happens very quick, but we’ll be frustrated by the way we’ve gone down. Three goals conceded before half-time against a team as strong as they are, you give yourself a mountain to climb.
"At least in the second half we came out and showed a bit more fight, there were spells when I think we did play some good football, but like a lot of our games this season, it’s come down to our mistakes that have cost us."
Jacob Sørensen came into the starting 11 for Sunday's game, and Byram only had good things to say about the midfielder.
“He’s a great lad on and off the pitch," he said. "He’s one of those who is there when you need him. He works unbelievably hard and is not a problem around the training ground.
"You know what you’re going to get from him and on the ball you can see his quality. He’ll be frustrated at his minutes this season but he’s a great player and a great lad as well, so I can’t speak highly enough of him."
Tony Springett came on for his debut at half time, and Byram has been impressed by the Academy graduates this season.
“He’s been with us a while along with Jonny Rowe and a few of the other lads," Byram said. "They bring that energy and excitement. Today, you saw clips of the sort of player he is.
"He’s high energy, he’s tricky and is good on the ball, so he’s another one for the future and another great lad for the squad."
As for the final three games of the season, Byram is keen to show more fight.
“We want to put on a better performance than we did today," he said. "I think we need to be better as a team and individually and show a bit of pride in the next three games to try to get results, goals and clean sheets - everything you expect as a fan is the same as a player.
"We played well in spells today but if you don’t do it for 90 minutes, then you’re not going to help yourselves.”
