Sam Byram: The break has come at a good time for us to regroup

Norwich City continued an unbeaten streak of seven following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Norwich City continued an unbeaten streak of seven following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Sam Byram claimed the equaliser after Teemu’s initial shot bounced off the left-back and into the back of the net.

Byram said following the match: “I think we’ve probably got away with one there. Overall, second half we were better but the whole first half was sloppy, and for a lot of the game we felt lethargic and nowhere near where we want to be.

“If we’re not on our day and we can’t win the game, I think it’s important not to get beat and I feel like we showed grit there, to pull ourselves back and to take a point on a poor day.”

Byram’s goal was his first for the club and kept the Canaries in the game until the final whistle.

“It was good to score my first goal for the club, I’m not sure I knew too much about it, I was probably trying to get out of the way of it, but I’ll take it!

“We take a point today and I think the break has come at a good time for us to regroup, refresh and get back together and look to the next game.

“Once West Brom got the early goal, they almost just sat in their own half and made it difficult for us. I think we were sloppy on the ball, which doesn’t help, we were playing rushed passes, but we will look at it and take the point.

The result keeps City in second, three points behind leaders Sheffield United.

“The unbeaten run shows resilience against a good team, I think the table doesn’t show their qualities. They’ve got a lot of good players and they gave us a test today. I feel like it’s important that we got the point and on to the next one.”

Following the international break, City face Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Saturday, October 1.

“The Championship is a relentless schedule and there’s an illness going through the camp, which, obviously is not an excuse, but it will give players a time to rest and recover and come back ready for the next game.”
