Academy player Sam McCallum managed to get 45 minutes of game time at Aldiss Park tonight in City’s 4-0 win over Dereham Town.
McCallum left a lasting impression on City fans who attended the club’s pre-season friendly, as he was heavily involved in the play-making of the first half.
The left back has been out on loan to QPR and Coventry City since joining the club in 2020, returning at the end of last season. “The boys have welcomed me back with open arms. I’ve loved every minute of being part of the squad and loved getting to meet the new gaffer and the new staff.
“Last season was a big learning curve for me – I’ve noticed and recognised things that I didn’t know about myself before. Having an injury was a tough part of it but getting it out of the way early was good.”
Tonight’s fixture saw 22 players from both the academy and first team taking part in the win over the local Northern Premier League Division One Midlands side.
“It was good to see a mix of the players out there today. The gaffer loves the young lads as well. It’s good to get us some minutes to prepare for what happens next season.
“In Germany I just want to get as many minutes under my belt as I can just to get prepared for the Championship season because the games are going to come thick and fast.”
“I can’t wait to step on the pitch at Carrow Road – I did get a snippet of it at the end of last season, so I’m really looking forward to it.”
