Josh Sargent was Norwich City's goalscorer as the side succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at home to Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship.
The USA striker notched his ninth goal of the season to put City ahead early in the first half but the visitors would strike twice in the final half an hour.
"We were creating a lot of chances, we could have had even more goals," Sargent said.
"We went up with that one goal and, after that, we became too passive. That's not a time to sit back and relax, that's a time to go and get that second goal, push harder. So, it's a very disappointing result for us."
Sargent has split his time between a wide position and a central striker role this season before going to a front two alongside Teemu Pukki of late.
And he believes that the number of chances being created will see both players find the net regularly again.
"It happens in some games (not taking chances)," he explains.
"Even then, I think we need to step it up and keep creating the chances, the chances are there, we just need to be better with them.
"I have a great relationship with Teemu and I really enjoy playing with him."
While the rest of the squad will take a week off before returning to training, Sargent will now link up with his international team-mates in preparation for the World Cup.
"A lot has gone into getting to this point of being called up for the World Cup. It was a very special moment for me and my family."
