Norwich City Women’s head coach Shaun Howes is delighted with his team's 3-1 victory over Harlow Town, which could be pivotal in the relegation battle this season.

“It is a really important result. Not just for the three points and to make sure that we stay in the fight, but it also gives the girls confidence for the next few games so it can’t be overstated how important the win was,” said Shaun.

“Their performance was excellent, it was a really important game and their work ethic, determination and the way they took the game on was brilliant.

“We knew we could get in behind them. Last time we played them we scored three goals by getting in behind them so we wanted that to be the focus of our attacking threat. We played our midfield a little bit higher and all three of our goals yesterday came from runs in behind.”

Speaking further about the game, Shaun commented on the team’s resilience after conceding an equaliser at the very end of the first half, going on to score two quickfire goals in the second half, securing the win.

“It was difficult but we just kept the belief. We did everything right in the first half, they scored from their only chance in the first half which we gave to them. The first five minutes we didn’t come out great, they had a couple of chances but our keeper made two unbelievable saves. Our confidence just grew from there and we managed to kill off the game.

“It felt really good. Last time we played them we were three nil up with 20 minutes to go and we lost 4-3. We knew that even after we went 2-1 up we needed another goal and we managed to score straight afterwards. Even after that we knew the game wasn’t dead, but it was a really professional performance from the girls and we didn’t give them the chance to get back into the game.”
