Norwich City Women have earned themselves back-to-back wins after victory over Cambridge City on Sunday, following a win over Harlow Town the week before.
The Canaries beat the visitors 3-1 in their FA Women’s National League Division One South East fixture, in a much needed win that puts them level on points with Enfield Town, just outside the danger zone.
“It was a really competitive game, both teams were close in ability and effort. I think we took our chances, whereas they probably didn’t so much in the first half.
“It was massive. Had we not got three points from that, I think we’d have been looking up with a little bit more desperation, but it still keeps us in the hunt. We know we’re not safe yet, we know we’ve got a lot to do but it was a massive result.”
The goals in the first half came from Megan Todd and Freya Symonds, with goals in the second half from Jodie Drake and the Lilywhites’ Isabelle Ely pulled one back for Cambridge.
The Yellows keeper Bryony Williams was also awarded the opposition’s player of the match for her efforts at keeping the visitors at bay.
Norwich play Cambridge City again this weekend and hope to do the double at the Ely City ground.
“I think we go into it exactly the same as we did on Sunday. We know that we are a good team, we know that we can create chances. We know their strengths, so we might change a little bit around but we have to focus on ourselves rather the opposition.
“Like I’ve said all season, it’s about them believing in themselves and that’s the biggest thing. I still think this group we’ve got is more than good enough to not be where we are right now, they just need to believe it. We’ve just got to stay positive, keep doing what we’re doing, working hard and hopefully we can continue this form.”
City head to the Ely City Ground next to play Cambridge City away on Sunday, April 3.
