The family of Norwich City supporter Jim Davies, who sadly passed away after a medical emergency at the conclusion of Sunday’s FA Cup third round match at Carrow Road, have asked the club to issue a statement on their behalf.
It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Jim Davies (80) confirm that he passed away on Sunday at Carrow Road.
Jim leaves behind a wife, a son, a daughter, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a son and daughter-in-law. He is survived by one older sister.
Jim began supporting the Canaries in the 1950s and was in the crowd when City famously knocked the Busby Babes out of the FA Cup in 1959. His love of football and the club has passed on through the generations, and the family’s connections run deeply.
His son is a volunteer coach with the Community Sports Foundation, his eldest grandson was previously an academy physio and his youngest grandson is a physical performance coach with the women’s team and academy. Most of the family are long-term season ticket holders.
The family wish to pass on their sincerest thanks to a number of people.
Firstly, we wish to thank the emergency services, the stewards, the supporters and anyone else who tried valiantly to revive Jim. We know that he received the best care possible. We also urge anyone affected by this to take the club up on their offer of support.
Secondly, we wish to thank both Norwich City and Walsall for their kind words in their statements after the incident, and Norwich City for their ongoing support. Norwich City Women’s players and staff are very much included in our gratitude, as are the senior leadership within the club.
We have been overwhelmed with the messages of condolence we have received in the mainstream media and on social media from so many people, including the support of clubs across the entire football family. We have seen messages from non-league fans through to fans of the top clubs in the Premier League.
We are grateful to you all but particularly want to highlight the supporters of Walsall and our rivals from Ipswich Town, the latter of which have proved to be true East Anglians. Jim would have been amazed at the level and nature of everyone’s reaction to what is a family tragedy.
As you will appreciate, the family are in shock, and we respectfully ask for a little time and privacy to come to terms with this devastating event.
