Philippe Clement has confirmed that new signing Ali Ahmed and Papa Amadou Diallo will not feature in this weekend's FA Cup third round tie against Walsall.
The head coach spoke glowingly of Ahmed's impact since arriving earlier this week, highlighting a number of attributes shown by the Canada international.
"Paperwork is done, the clearance is there. Ali played his last game in the first week of December, he's had four weeks break, he stayed active because he's a good professional," Clement explained.
"Players lose something, you need to start pre-season, you don't start after three days by putting them in a game, he won't be in the selection tomorrow but I expect him to be in next week.
"A lot of things; speed, technical ability, really good running stats, someone who can make a difference in the final third, dribbles, assists. He needs to work on scoring more goals, we have targets for him to become better, something we think we can do with him.
"One of the things from the talks with him were his hunger and desire, he felt this was the best project to develop himself. He could have gone to higher leagues or for more money. I think he will have a really good future here.
"He can play on both sides, he does his defensive job which is important in this league. It's a different league and a different playing style here. We know how we want to play and he's going to be one of the guys to help us do that."
He also gave more detail on a number of players who have spent recent months in rehabilitation.
One of those was Diallo who has made his return to full training for the first time since September when he picked up a quad injury in the defeat to Wrexham at Carrow Road.
"It's a logical one with Papa. If someone has been out that long, you don't put them in a game after three training sessions. I've liked the things I've seen, Ali and Papa are two interesting types who will add to the team. I'll be very happy when we get them fit.
"Gabe (Forsyth) is not yet where Papa is, it's still a programme where sometimes he trains with the group and sometimes he stays in the gym. He needs some time to get into full training sessions. We need to build his load, give him a lot of training sessions and rise his load every week, intensity, high intensity runs, accelerations and decelerations. Guys coming out of injury still have a way to go, if you come out too fast, you risk another injury or the same one.
"(Amankwah Forson) is with the physios for the moment, progressing as expected but it will take a few more weeks."
Clement explained that the squad training was individualised this week giving some players days to allow for recovery and rest.
Kenny McLean and Josh Sargent were among those given some time off, while Clement says that the club captain is still a matchday decision as to whether he will feature.
"It was a week where we had to individualise. (The training video) was a day for Josh and Kenny where they were not involved in that training session, no big worries about it. Sarge is good. With Kenny, we have to watch out so there's no decision made yet if he'll be in the selection but he'll be available next week," he added.
"I don't think people need a breather because we had a week where some could recover and train. I'm still just in the building, there's some players I haven't seen enough of in a game. I need to think about what is a good moment to let them play, those things are in my head now.
"I have difficult decisions to make now, more players are also available. We had 23 outfield players available all the time, more choices to be made. We need to make good choices for the short term but also for the long term. "
Clement also spoke about the competition and his memories of watching the FA Cup in his younger days before eventually playing in with Coventry City in the mid-1990s.
He also pointed to the special memories that it can create and how his team need to be wary of facing a team from lower down the Football League.
"I've watched Match of the Day since I was a small boy, these games were always special. I don't know if there's many leagues in the world where the cup is so special, where there is so much importance on it," Clement said.
"Yesterday evening, the people in Wrexham made a special memory together. During lunch, the team leading against Crystal Palace, those are special moments. We need to make sure we go as far as possible. If players or staff think one game is less important than another, that means you don't have a winning culture, that's what we create together.
"We have good analysts, we've looked at a lot of games with the staff. We get the same info as the league games, you get to know the opponents. The thing is whether they will play the same in this game as their normal way of playing. What we need to do is ensure we play our way."
