Dean Smith confirmed in Friday morning's pre-Preston press conference that Todd Cantwell trained on Thursday and the squad has no fresh injury concerns.
Updating the room on Dimitris Giannoulis, Dean Smith said: "He is working really hard with the rehab staff, he's on the grass and striking balls. He's getting closer to a return in training.
"None of our first team players will feature in the Under 21s squad against Stoke this weekend."
When asked about the absence of youth players Tony Springett and Jonathan Rowe, the head coach confirmed that Springett had been off ill and Rowe was still not training.
"They are first team members now who will play for the Under 21s when they have games. We have a programme in place for them and their career path."
City face Preston North End at Carrow Road on Saturday, October 8 at 3pm.
On the visitors, Smith said: "Preston are very well organised and have defended really well so far this season. It's a great achievement keeping that many clean sheets."
The match will be the club's dedicated mental health awareness day fixture, as club principal partner Lotus Cars have given up their front of shirt sponsor for local charity Norfolk and Waveney Mind.
"We're thankful lotus have leant the shirt for the game to Mind, especially as we all know mental health awareness now is very big for everybody."
Assessing Tuesday night's performance against Reading, Smith said: "Gibbs was our best player on Tuesday night, the numbers he spits out are really good. There will be no problems with him having a second game.
"He can easily play as an eight, you saw his ball carrying skills. He can run both ways and he's really well disciplined, he knows what's over his shoulder.
"He's a hard working lad who likes the game and understands it. As a team, that's what we need at this time.
"Teemu is playing every international game with Finland and he is four years older than when he first joined this club, so we have to manage his minutes."
