Head coach Liam Manning spoke to the media ahead of Tuesday night's clash with Derby County in the Sky Bet Championship.
Manning gave updates on the health of several squad members including some brighter news on Shane Duffy and Mathias Kvistgaarden, but suggested that Tuesday would be too soon for either to feature.
"Shane trained this morning and looked good; we're thinking maybe this weekend for him and the same with Mathias Kvistgaarden.
"We need to get the balance right. We'll have more options at the weekend but we mustn't be stupid or reckless if there's a chance of someone breaking down. We need bodies available to change the spot we're in."
Lucien Mahovo missed Saturday's game with an injury and Manning gave more information on his condition:
"It's a small, low-level injury below the area he had his surgery before. It's a setback as he was in a decent spot.
"When you saw him in the games he looked good, but what we didn't know is how he would respond to competitive football.
"It's not a major thing - it's related but it's not the same area. The key is to get him back when he's ready."
The head coach suggested that Mirko Topić would be available tomorrow but that this week was still too soon for Ben Chrisene.
There was better news on Elliot Myles:
"He's out on the grass now and closer to a return - maybe two weeks maximum from joining full team training.
"We need competition and he would help that in wide areas. Having extra bodies will help people raise their game and deliver."
Speaking more generally about what the team needs to improve, Manning mentioned toughness:
"Being tough is staying switched on for 90 minutes. We have to spend too much time talking basics - we have to put it right and we've had good honest conversations with players.
"We're not going to hide away from what it's looked like because the fans can see it. We've got to be more switched on, braver, with more focus and intent.
"We've all got the same goal and want to achieve the same things.
"Obviously results and performances haven't been good enough, but we need to stick together, put it right, improve it and start to pick up points.
"We have to develop leaders. We need to come up with solutions as well as reflect on things we haven't done well enough.
"I think everybody is all in, everybody is hurting. I'll keep my head down and work hard and not waste energy (where it won't help the situation).
"We need everybody to step up and make sure we're at our best tomorrow night."
