Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has been speaking to the media ahead of our first home fixture of 2025, against Coventry City on Saturday, January 4.
On injuries, the head coach confirmed that Anis Ben Slimane is expected to be out for four to six weeks while Josh Sargent is still not ready for this weekend.
"Hopefully, this will be the last Championship game without Josh. We hope that we can build him back into the squad. It feels like a signing," Hoff Thorup said.
"It's an ankle ligament injury for Anis. It is somewhere in between four weeks to six weeks. If everything goes well, it's four weeks.
"(Lungi) was illness first but then there's calf issues that we found out about. A minor issue, something that will only keep him out for a couple of weeks."
City also confirmed the signing of Lewis Dobbin today on loan from Aston Villa.
The Dane gave some more insight into why he believes that the young winger will be a good addition to his squad for the remainder of the season.
"Really pleased. He's a player that can give us a different style up front, he can play in three positions. He's a good runner, good at running in behind, timing his runs.
'Physically, his sprint numbers, his intensity of high speed running, is at a high level. He's up there in terms of physical numbers which is a really important part of our play, the demands on the front players.
"There'll be areas he needs to improve. What he brings in terms of physical performance will be really good and we'll be able to use him tomorrow if we want."
There was also another outgoing move late on Thursday night as Ashley Barnes' departure was confirmed.
After 49 games for the club, Barnes returns to Burnley on a six-month contract.
"From a selfish perspective, we could use him as you saw against Luton. But from his perspective, his contract is up this summer and for him to find a club he can spend more seasons, we have to respect that," Hoff Thorup added.
"His energy and personality brings a lot to our environment. Some of the players are still quite young, so it's important to have some players who know what it's all about. He's one of them."
