David Wagner gave the latest fitness updates on players ahead of the club's Sky Bet Championship fixture against Preston North End, confirming Josh Sargent could be a doubt for the game.

The head coach also confirmed that Liam Gibbs had picked up a serious quad injury in City's midweek game against Sheffield Wednesday and that "he will be out for the rest of the season. He will see a specialist in London this week to see if he needs surgery."

On Sargent's substitution during the game against Sheffield Wednesday, Wagner said: "Josh came off after 60 minutes with some quad tightness, so he is a doubt for Saturday as he was not able to train today.

"Everyone else looks fine, Jonny Rowe we have to assess day to day.

"There is a big chance he is involved next week against Bristol at home. He made his first steps this week in team training.

"Batth has done great to support and back us, Duffy looks fresh again and is ready for Saturday.

"Lungi is not back in team training, so will not be available."

Norwich travel to eighth-placed Preston North End this Saturday, currently sitting five points behind the Canaries with a game in hand.

"If there is one proper British team in the Championship, it's Preston. They are physically direct, long throw-ins and they do it all on a very high level. They are a top team competing for the play-offs and this speaks for itself.

"It's another big challenge, which we have experienced a few in recent weeks and months and I ask us to do what we have done previously; speak less, work more, be humble.

"We know where we come from. It's outstanding what the players have done since November and where they have put this football club now. We will leave everything on the grass to keep our position."

On Sydney van Hooijdonk, Wagner said: "The only thing Syd can do is impress in training and this is what he does, so big credit for him, and wait for the moment where he can get minutes. This will come, when it will come maybe on Saturday, maybe the week after."
