Norwich City striker Adam Idah has been ruled out for the rest of the 2021/22 Premier League season after having surgery on knee injury.
Idah came off with a knock during City's draw with Crystal Palace, and head coach Dean Smith revealed the extent of his injury at his pre-Liverpool press conference.
"We've had some bad news about Adam," he said. "He went in for an arthroscopy and then for a meniscus repair, he should be out for the season now.
"It's a real blow and disappointing but it gives other players an opportunity now.
"It was in the game when he did it. He planted his foot and hurt his ankle and knee but played on. He felt a bit stiff on the following two days, and reported it to the medical staff."
However, Dean revealed he took a squad up to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday for a training fixture and that's helped get the likes of Mathias Normann and Ozan Kabak up to speed.
"I was mindful of the fact a lot of players needed minutes. It was good in the sense that Ozan played 90 minutes and is now back available.
"Mathias had 60 minutes in the practice game in the week, he's nearing a start which is really good for us.
On other players currently on the treatment table, Dean said: "Tim Krul is progressing well. He's doing some ball work and is due to have another injection today.
"Lukas Rupp is back in rehabilitation as well so it's looking good with those two.
"Andrew Omobamidele had some time off. He hasn't managed to deal with the training load so far so we will go back to see a consultant on his back problem."
