Speaking ahead of Norwich City's trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers, head coach Liam Manning reflected on the cup exit at the hands of Southampton.
The 3-0 defeat saw City bow out in the second round with attention now quickly switching back to the league campaign.
"Straight in this morning, watched the game back and straight into Blackburn. A busy day, get our prep and make sure we're ready to go on Saturday," Manning said of the defeat.
"Two lenses, emotional lens of coming away with nothing, and then you take a step back and see where we're at in our journey. In the first half, their keeper was a lot busier than us, we don't ease any pressure by taking any of those chances.
"We played against a strong team last night and cause them some problems. The second half, for me, wasn't where it needed to be. There's still elements to learn from and be better at."
The Norwich boss felt that the similarities between the Southampton defeat and the loss against Middlesbrough the Saturday before were "frustrating".
However, he indicated that the squad are staying in the right place mentally.
"It's frustrating because it's in our control, we could be sat here with a lot more points on the board. You need to build resilience, it's quite important to being a successful team.
"We're at a stage of building something that we have to do quickly. If I was sat here with the run of results we had and saying we'd been dominated in every game, I'd be worried. It'll turn, I know it will.
"If we want players that are able to make decisions and be unpredictable, we have to allow them to do that. We're still finding out a lot about the lads, how they cope under pressure. I know what turns it, staying calm and being clear, analytical and reflective.
"It doesn't mean we accept it or we are happy with it but what the lads have to do is stay focused."
Two players that Manning spoke about in his press conference were Liam Gibbs and Matěj Jurásek.
Both players were starting their first game of the season, offering the coaching staff a chance to run the rule over them.
"I've known (Liam) a long time, he's had a tough time with injuries so last night is a good step for him. A full pre-season was good progress for him. He did some good bits last night, you could see him tire towards the end but he showed some good attributes," Manning explained.
"For him and for us, to see him there was good. He's a very good all-round footballer which makes it easy to use him in different ways without cementing down an area. He had a solid performance.
"I was also pleased with Matěj last night. I've thrown a challenge at him and he's stepped up in the last two or three weeks. I liked how he took some risks last night, he had some good moments so now we'll just try and sustain that for longer."
Assessing the challenge of this weekend, Manning reiterated how there are no easy games in this league, particularly away from home.
He suggested that his side will be taking their experience from two away victories so far this season but also acknowledged that each team presents a different task.
"Going away to Blackburn is a tough game, as is most of the Championship games. You can play fantastically well and still lose. We'll be prepared and the lads will be in the right place mentally. It's a different challenge, a different style, it's about choosing what you carry forward from the past. We need to turn up and do what we need to do.
"Mixed results at the start, they won their last game. You would never want to predict the results in the Championship over the course of a weekend, they'll be well-organised and well set up."
