Team news: McCallum out until after World Cup

Norwich City left-back Sam McCallum has been ruled out until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which takes place from November 20 to December 18.

Norwich City left-back Sam McCallum has been ruled out until after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which takes place from November 20 to December 18.

McCallum had to come off of the pitch during Tuesday's Carabao Cup game against Birmingham City, and Dean Smith confirmed in his pre-Hull City press conference on Friday morning that the full-back has had surgery.

"He fractured his fifth metatarsal, so it's a bit of a blow," he said. "Fortunately, Dimitris Giannoulis didn't need to take the surgical route on his injury, so it's a more conservative approach to his recovery.

"Sam Byram should be back and available for selection against Millwall," Smith added.

Todd Cantwell and Ben Gibson both trained on Thursday afternoon and are ready for the trip to Hull, but Saturday's game comes a bit too early for Adam Idah.

"Idah's not available for this weekend as he hasn’t trained with us yet," Smith said, "but we're hopeful he’ll be back in training on Monday."
