Team news | No fresh injury concerns for WBA

Norwich City boss Liam Manning has spoken to the media ahead of the club's midweek home fixture against West Bromwich Albion.

Norwich City boss Liam Manning has spoken to the media ahead of the club's midweek home fixture against West Bromwich Albion.

The Baggies will be at Carrow Road on Wednesday evening (KO 7.45pm) hoping to build on their strong start to the season.

Manning started his press conference by giving an update on some injured players. Lucien Mahovo and Kenny McLean are both available while longer term injuries remain for Gabe Forsyth, Shane Duffy and Anis Ben Slimane.

"Definitely in contention for Wednesday. He's (Mahovo) built up some training load and is in a much better place. He's training well and we've been impressed with him," Manning said.

"When you look at how long he's been out for, we'd be a bit reckless to throw him in from the start with no game exposure. He's working really hard."

For Duffy, the Republic of Ireland international picked up a calf injury and is almost ready to return to squad training but his progress is being managed.

Forsyth has undergone a surgical procedure and remains in rehabilitation for his injury picked up in November last year.

"It's still going to be a little bit of time unfortunately (for Forsyth). He just wasn't settling after doing some work, the specialist had a look at it and it's just a minor setback.

"(Duffy's) not training at the moment, we're looking at building him up and reintegrating him.

"Anis actually picked up a quad injury. He's one that, after the window had closed and he had some clarity on the situation, I pulled for a chat and said to keep doing what you're doing. Unfortunately, instead he'll be out for a considerable time."

Manning is still looking for his first home win as City boss and hopes that his side can show the best version of themselves on Wednesday night.

A well-worked move provided Jovon Makama's goal against Stoke City over the weekend and it's a period of play Manning says he is expecting more regularly in each game.

"We've suffered a bit performance-wise recently. Any team that goes through that and has to suffer, it will help us going forward. First half against Middlesbrough, good control but no validation in scoring when w're on top. It's been a good chance for us to look at it and say: Who are we? What are we?," he added.

"I don't want us to be a team that sits off and defends for large periods. Looking at Wednesday, we want to take control and be brave.

"It starts with the head, the minds. The bits we see in training, we've shown in flashes in games. You can sometimes overthink things rather than fall back on what we're about. The difference going from training to matches, the pressure, the atmosphere, the opposition, we need to relish that."

At the time of writing, West Brom are in eighth in the Championship with 11 points from their opening seven fixtures.

Under Ryan Mason, their last outing saw Leicester City rescue a late point against them at the Hawthorns.

"We have to earn credit, we don't have that in the bank at the minute. We have to give the fans something to get behind, there's numerous ways of doing that, playing with purpose and showing some exciting moments.

"Another tough side, they've had some change in personnel. They're hard to beat, extremely well-organised. We've seen the margins are so tight in this league, Wednesday will be another one of those. We need to step up and be the best version of us, and take the game to them."
