Norwich City head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has confirmed that Emiliano Marcondes will miss Tuesday night's fixture against Preston North End.

The Canaries host Preston at Carrow Road on Tuesday night, hoping to return to winning ways after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Derby County.

"It's the same as Saturday, but without Emiliano Marcondes," the head coach confirmed.

"He's been feeling some pain and we need to do something about it. He was feeling pain against Derby and we're not sure if it will be a week or two.

"We're trying to do everything without surgery (for Gabe Forsyth). We've tried injections, one every week for three weeks and he's having his second one this week. We hope that we can fix this. (Amankwah) Forson isn't really getting better.

"We're still looking at a couple of weeks, maybe more. He's not in training or even running. That's one that's surprised us. Hopefully in a couple of weeks, it will look better."

Hoff Thorup also confirmed that Borja Sainz will return to the squad following the Spaniard's suspension.

"He is looking forward to it, I can promise you. He's been training well and been with the group. It's always different stepping into a game, he will be in the group tomorrow. You will have to wait and see tomorrow," he added.

"He's been very clear that he was struggling (with his emotions). That was completely new to him, it was difficult for him to get the knocks and fouls against him. It's the reality, we need to face it and see how we can use it and how he can get better."

The Dane also spoke about the competition in the squad with the recent arrivals and players returning from injury.

"There's competition and there's some disappointed faces after the team selection. But as a coach, you prefer that than the opposite. We still have two or three players who we need to be careful with. (Josh) Sargent, (Marcelino) Núñez, (Anis) Slimane, we have to be careful.

"It's difficult. I want him (Sargent) to play 90 minutes every week, but we have to be careful. It's not an easy call, but we will plan something with him. We have to do it, as the last thing we want is another injury with him."
