Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup has confirmed that Josh Sargent will remain unavailable for the remainder of 2024.
Speaking on Christmas Eve ahead of the fixture against Millwall, Hoff Thorup gave an update on a variety of squad members.
Sargent has been out for a couple of months, and it's now confirmed that he will not feature this week against Millwall or QPR.
"It's the same position we have been in for the guys with injuries," the Dane said.
"It's a little bit too early with Josh. He's hardly on the grass and not integrated with the team yet. It's just too soon for him.
"In one of the trainings last week, he (Gabe Forsyth) felt something in his knee again. He didn't have to start over but maybe it's a week back."
On the news that Angus Gunn would not be receiving a ban from the FA over an incident against QPR, he said: "Christmas has started."
With a variety of changes in attack over the past month, Hoff Thorup spoke about Amankwah Forson.
"He's still struggling a little bit with the physicality in the league, and the intensity, being aware of more than one situation," he explained.
"We re-evaluated and decided to try some other players. He will adapt, he's a big part of the team."
The head coach said that he has been happy with his team in phases recently, with good performances in the opening 45 minutes against both Sunderland and Burnley.
However, he also admitted that being ahead at half-time in both fixtures and coming away with no points has changed some of the analysis of the fixtures.
"A very good first half (against Sunderland), our defensive structure looked better, not conceding many chances. I would have liked us to create more. They have a great home record and it's not an easy place to go. The second half was not good enough, affected by their goal.
"The 20 minutes up to the red card was not good from us. We are speaking about how to be better, we need to be better at defending set-pieces.
"We have a term in Danish, it bites us in the ass, I'm not sure if you say it here. The performance against Burnley, it was more than OK, the first half against Sunderland the same. We need to improve in some of those difficult moments."
With Millwall in NR1 on Boxing Day, he says that he expects a similar challenge to the one faced against QPR and Portsmouth already this month.
"It'll be a really interesting one. I hope the players are up for a challenge because this will be one. It's a game that, if we're not at our best, it's on a fine line with set-pieces, duels, second balls."
