Norwich City forward Teemu Pukki rescued a point for the Canaries when he volleyed past Martin Dubravka in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.
“If you play with one more player almost the whole game, you need to win it, so we’re disappointed with the rest of the game,” he said, referring to Ciaran Clark’s early sending off. “At least we got the one point. It’s always good to come from behind but we should have got three points today.
“Fair play to them, they did quite well with their defending and didn’t give us space to create chances, but we need to do better and we all know that. We didn’t create so many chance where we should have scored more. If this ever happens again, we need to be better when we have one player more.”
Pukki’s goal was created by Dimitris Giannoulis, six minutes after the full-back came on for Brandon Williams.
“Almost in every game, when the guys come off the bench, they bring something to the game,” Pukki added. “Dimi gave me a good assist, Pierre almost scored at the end, so it’s important for us to have many players who can make a difference. We have enough good players to do that.”
Rewind just over two years and City fans were enjoying another excellent Pukki volley against Newcastle, albeit at Carrow Road.
“With the left foot as well today,” Pukki said. “It was a great ball from Dimi and I had quite a lot of time to aim it. It’s a nice goal and I have to be happy with that, but still no three points so I can’t be too happy.
“We go into every game wanting to get three points and next is Tottenham. We haven’t lost yet with the gaffer, so it’s looking good but we need to keep working and train well this week to be at our best.
“If we play like we played today, we probably won’t get three points, so we need to be better on Sunday.”
