Norwich City forward Teemu Pukki was in high spirits following Saturday's 2-1 win at Brentford, the Canaries first of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
"Happy, relieved, amazing feeling to finally get three points," he said. "It's been a hard season so far, so it feels like it was important for us to finally get those.
"They made it hard for us. In the first half we played really good football and were the better team, but in the second half it was a fight. That's something we had to go through to get that first win. All the guys were running after the ball and blocking shots, so that's what you need in this league to get points.
"There were a couple more chances we created. It's been hard and we haven't created as many was we wanted to score goals, but today we did it. Mathias had a great goal and good assist for me, so that's something we need to do better in this league to get points."
Pukki made no mistake with his penalty kick in the 29th minute, calmly slotting into the bottom left corner.
"I was quite confident," he said. "I felt that I would score and I was happy to see the ball go in.
"I don't know what the fans were telling me but it was nice to celebrate the goal in front of them.
"It's a massive boost. It's never easy when you don't get the first win but we finally got it. Now we need to build from here and there are still many important games to go. It doesn't mean anything for the next games, so we need to work hard to keep going.
"It's a big thing for us. The fans have given great support in every game, especially away games when you see so many of them coming to them all. To give them some joy on the journey back, I hope they have a good bus trip back to Norwich!"
Pukki will now spend the international break fighting to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Finland, and could make his 100th appearance for the nation in a big game at home to France.
"It's a big thing for me," he said. "It's been quite a journey with the national team and we still have a lot to play for, first in Bosnia where we need to get points to give us a chance in the last game to get into the play-off spots. If I get my 100th cap, that's a big honour for me."
