November's international break is set to be an exciting one for Teemu Pukki, who could make his 100th Finland appearance in a crucial World Cup qualifier at home to France.
If Pukki plays against Bosnia on Saturday, November 13, his 100th appearance is expected to come against France on Tuesday, November 16.
Should Finland beat Bosnia to go second in Group D, a result against France could be vital with Ukraine close behind in third.
“The 100 cap mark is a huge thing," Pukki said. "Always when you go and play with your national team, it’s an honour to put the shirt on.
“I hope the 100th cap comes in a couple of weeks, it will be a big thing for me. We still have things to play for in the group. We’re still fighting for second place and there’s a lot to play for.
“Even when things are going well at Norwich, it’s a bit of a release to go back to Finland and play with the guys.
“I get to see some guys who I’ve known for 10 to 15 years so we have a really good relationship. I always enjoy going away with my national team.”
The October international break was a memorable one for Pukki as well, as he scored twice against Kazakhstan to surpass Jari Litmanen and become Finland's all-time leading scorer.
“It was a dream come true to break the record," he said. "Before I came here, I never imagined it would be possible. I was quite far behind him.
“He’s a Finnish football hero so it was a really proud moment for me to go past him and be the top scorer now for Finland. I hope I can score even more goals to make the gap even bigger so the new young players won’t come up so fast and take over me!”
Another benefit of the international break is that it affords extra time for players to spend with their families, something Pukki values highly.
"Having kids has been the biggest change in my football life as well," he said. "Before the football, maybe the game was a bit too important for me.
"When you have something very important at home, you forget about a bad game when you get home. They don’t really care about that, my older daughter is old enough to speak now so when I get home she says: ‘Daddy, let’s go and play!’
"And that’s what I have to do. I can’t be sad at home because we played bad or I trained bad.
"It’s busy times at home with two kids, but thanks to my wife who takes care of them and me at the same time. Family is the best thing world."
