After Norwich City’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on Tuesday night, Tim Krul remained upbeat about the Canaries’ chances going forward.
“We’re four games unbeaten now, there’s a lot of positivity around the place, the confidence is growing so we’ve got a good thing going,” he said.
“The penalty was really close. Wilson’s last three were down the middle, so I waited a bit longer to see if he was going to do it again, but it went against the crossbar and in.
“It’s a weird feeling being in front of the Gallowgate End as well. It was a weird night, but I’m positive for the future. It’s a massive game on Sunday again.
“You saw the team who wanted to win the most. We were going after them, but we lacked a bit of quality in possession today, taking too long to change play, so we’re disappointed but that shows you where we’re heading.
“I said a couple of months ago ‘judge us on January 2 when we’ve played everyone,’ and I’ve got massive belief in this squad but obviously we have to show it.
“In the last four games, we’ve shown real commitment and some good quality. It’s just that final bit today that was lacking.”
Krul added that the experience brought in from Dean Smith and Craig Shakespeare has helped City’s confidence grow in recent weeks.
“Dean’s got a lot of experience in English football and you can see that, Shakespeare as well,” he said. “They give you that belief because they’ve been there and done it.
“Smith kept Aston Villa up, Shakey won the Premier League, so there’s a lot of experience. We’re all buying into their belief and it all adds up when you’re winning.
“Players are coming out of their shells a bit more and we’ve got an exciting December coming up.”
Krul had a foot in both camps on Tuesday night, having spent the majority of his career on Tyneside.
“It’s amazing to have two clubs that I’ve played for with such amazing support,” he said. “To look up and see the Norwich fans at St James’, which is a special place for me… I was here for 12 years, so it’s always a special night coming here.
“But I’ve got a new home now and Norwich is a special place for me and I’m desperate to keep this club in the Premier League because I feel like we can head places.
“Spurs is another massive game to look forward to and we’ve had some results there before, so we don’t go there with fear. We try to show everyone what we’re capable of.”
