Norwich City goalkeeper Tim Krul was recently presented with his 200th Premier League appearance shirt by David James, who holds the record for goalkeeper appearances in the Premier League.
The Dutchman kept a clean sheet on his 200th appearance, a 0-0 draw away to Burnley in early October.
157 of his appearances came for Newcastle United and 43 for Norwich City.
"When I first came to England, I didn’t expect to play 200 games, let alone in the Premier League. To do that is something to be proud of," he said.
"It’s special to be in the Premier League. It’s such an amazing league and it’s a rollercoaster.
"In the beginning, there were a few games that you could say were an easy three points, but not anymore. It’s like a cup final every Saturday afternoon but that makes it special. It’s an honour to be part of that.
"David is a legend of the game. It was nice to speak to him because somebody like him, who has done so much for the game, is good to look up to. It’s nice to get the shirt off of him."
James made 572 Premier League appearances during his career, featuring for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City and Portsmouth in the topflight.
"First of all, I’ve got to say it’s an honour to be asked to give Tim the shirt," he said. "My affiliation with Norwich is pretty much down to holidaying as a kid, getting sent off in the last day at The Kop, and a Christmas party!
"Our former goalkeeping coach, Paul Barron, said to me when Tim was at Newcastle ‘I’ve got the answer here, he’s really good’. I was like ‘okay, everyone says that’, but the fact he’s now had 200 Premier League appearances is a positive argument to Tim being top drawer.
"There are quite a few youngsters here who will only wish to achieve what Tim’s done, not just in the Premier League but for Netherlands as well. That experience is vital."
Presenting Krul with his shirt at Lotus Training Centre, James was impressed by the progress that has been made since his previous visit.
"Lotus Training Centre - wow. I drove in and didn’t recognise it straight away. Last time I was here was about five years ago and it was under construction but what you’ve got here is top draw and befitting of a Premier League team.
