Tony Springett: It feels like a loss to draw a game like that

Under-23s midfielder Tony Springett says their 3-3 draw with Reading felt more like a loss after conceding a last-minute equaliser on Monday evening.

The U23s went 2-1 down by half time, but came back to take a 3-2 lead going into the final minutes of the game, before conceding the leveller with the last kick of the game.

Speaking in his post-match interview, Springett says the team's first half performance was nowhere near their standard compared to the second half, but was left disappointed by the last-minute equaliser.

"I feel like we started the game off well, but then we started to get a little bit too fancy after ten minutes. We went through a 20-minute period of just letting them have the ball and play straight through us.

"After we went in at half time we got a talking to and realised we needed to be better. We came out, started playing so much better, getting on the ball more, playing through them, getting two goals back and going 3-2 up.

"Then, we lost it in the last minute of the game. Sloppy defending. All three goals were set-pieces, which is not good to see and something we're going to have to work on. It feels like a loss to draw a game like that, it's just disappointing.

"After coming back out from half time and working our socks off, winning our one-on-ones, passing the ball, keeping possession, coming out with the right mindset and getting into the lead to lose it all in the last minute, it's good to have that mindset. This mindset makes us want to win more, we don't want to feel like this after a game."

Despite the 3-3 draw, all of Reading's goals came from set-pieces, which Springett says can be seen as both a positive and negative to take for the young Canaries.

"It's a positive and a negative to concede from set-pieces. Reading couldn't crack us from open play, but we work on set-plays a lot. We went through their set-plays, we knew what they were going to do, what their tactics were.

"We shouldn't be conceding. It's kind of a positive that they couldn't break us, but they still took a draw. We're all feeling a bit rubbish at the moment, soon as we get this behind us we'll feel a bit better and discuss the game then, we just shouldn't draw a game like that."
