Two Canaries will battle it out in the knockout stages of the FIFA World Cup after both Ali Ahmed and Mohamed Touré helped Canada and Australia secure places in the round of 32.
Despite a 2-1 defeat to Switzerland in their final Group B fixture on Wednesday, Canada progressed as runners-up, with Ali Ahmed playing 58 minutes. The joint hosts will now face South Africa on Sunday evening (8pm UK), with the winner advancing to face either Morocco or the Netherlands in the round of 16.
Mohamed Touré was an unused substitute as Australia played out a goalless draw with Paraguay on Friday morning, but the Socceroos also sealed second place in Group D to book their place in the knockout stages. They will take on Egypt in Dallas on Friday (7pm UK), with the winners set to face either Argentina or Cape Verde in the round of 16.
José Córdoba impressed despite Panama's 2-0 defeat to England on Saturday, with the centre-back playing the full 90 minutes. The defender featured in every minute of Panama's World Cup campaign.
Club captain Kenny McLean and Scotland agonisingly missed out on a place in the knockout stages following a 3-0 defeat to Brazil on Wednesday. The Scots finished as one of the four lowest-ranked third-placed teams and narrowly failed to progress to the round of 32.
It was also a frustrating tournament for Anis Ben Slimane and Tunisia, who finished bottom of Group F after suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Netherlands on Thursday, with City’s attacking midfielder playing 68 minutes on the night.
