Norwich City's Under-18s were beaten 4-1 at home to Reading Under-18s in the U18 Premier League South on Saturday afternoon.

Basil Tuma shot high and wide with the first attempt of the game for Reading, before two City crosses from the right wing were dealt with.

Jayden St Paul made a great save to deny Harry Furlong, tipping his powerful volley over the bar.

The City 'keeper then saved with his foot to concede a corner after Tuma had burst into the penalty area and got a shot away.

Reading took the lead in the 25th minute when, after wining back possession from City's counter-attack, Tuma picked out Furlong, who smashed the ball in off the post.

At the other end, Ken Aboh crossed for Kenny Coker, the latter shooting first time straight at Tom Norcott.

Oscar Thorn than headed wide from Ayyuba Jambang's delivery as the home side looked increasingly likely to respond.

But Furlong was a handful in the Canaries' penalty area, volleying wide moments before Tuma headed the ball into the top right corner for 2-0 going into half-time.

City captain Brad Hills played a long ball forward for Thorn to run onto early in the second half. His low cross was cleared, and Osman Foyo's powerful shot from the following corner was caught.

Coker did well to wriggle past three blue and white shirts before dragging his shot wide in the 56th minute.

Aboh then had a shot deflected over the bar, before Caylon Vickers' shot was saved by St Paul, only as far as David Nyarko who had a tap-in for 3-0.

But Reading didn't cruise to victory, as half-time substitute Dubem Eze struck sweetly into the bottom left corner in the 68th minute, assisted by Coker, to make it 3-1.

Michael Reindorf and Alex Roberts, both on as substitutes in the second half, combined in the 74th minute but Roberts' connection with Reindorf's cross wasn't powerful enough.

In the game's dying embers, Roberts put a good ball across the face of goal, but it was just out of reach for Coker to capitalise.

In the fourth minute of added time, the result was settled as Furlong netted his second with a lob over St Paul.
