Norwich City's Under-23s were beaten 2-1 away to Birmingham City in the Premier League 2 Division Two at St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium on Monday night.
The Canaries had a chance to take the lead early on when Tony Springett, who scored a brace in last week's 2-1 win at Fulham, saw his shot blocked by Rico Browne.
Nelson Khumbeni gave the ball away inside City's half moments later, but could breath a sigh of relief as Joshua Williams dragged the ball wide for the hosts.
A Birmingham ball into the box then found Josh Andrews, whose control allowed George Hall to shoot just wide.
Andrews then went for goal himself, but Jon McCracken got down to his right to make a good save.
In the 27th minute, Jonathan Tomkinson found Springett with an accurate ball over the top. The latter fired venomously towards the top right corner on the volley, but Zach Jeacock did well to punch the ball behind.
Jobe Bellingham lifted the ball over the City defence straight after, and Andrews chipped it high over the bar.
In the 43rd minute, Birmingham took the lead when Andrews smashed the ball into the bottom left corner from the right of the 18-yard box.
The second half was a less eventful affair and coach Alan Neilson made his first changes as Joe Duffy and Ken Aboh replaced Nelson Khumbeni and Alex Matos respectively in the 63rd minute.
But Birmingham doubled their lead five minutes later. Marcel Oakley's cross from the right wing floated towards the far post. Josh Giurgi attempted to head the ball behind, but it fell into the bottom left corner for 2-0.
Oriol Soldevila curled a free-kick wide of the post for the home side with just over ten minutes remaining.
Aboh almost pulled one back when he received the ball in a dangerous area of the 18-yard box, but shot just wide of the post.
Then, Springett was fouled in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Abu Kamara stepped up and stroked the ball into the bottom left corner to reduce the deficit.
Birmingham almost made it 3-1 in the game's dying embers as Saxon Earley gave the ball away, but Kyle Hurst shot onto the post from just outside the area.
