Norwich City U18s spirited second half performance just fell short of the mark as they took a 3-1 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion U18s on Saturday afternoon.
The U18s saw just one change to the starting lineup that previously played Chelsea before the international break, with Waylon Renecke making his debut for the side from the Under-16s.
After 15 minutes of quiet play, the hosts found the opener early on through Zak Emmerson, who neatly finished past Jayden St Paul.
Capitalising on their momentum, the Seagulls would go on to double their lead just minutes later through Emmerson once more, the forward finding the back of the net for his brace in the 19th minute.
Having gone down by two goals early, City then woke up as they came fighting back for chances of their own. Despite their efforts, a quiet rest of the half would soon be finished off by Emmerson as he found his first-half hat-trick to put the Seagulls three ahead.
Coming out for the second half, the young Canaries looked motivated to get themselves back in the game, however difficult the task may be.
Striking early, City won a penalty just four minutes into the second half, seeing Kenny Coker step up and convert from the spot to pull one back early.
Putting pressure on the hosts, the Canaries pegged Brighton back to just ten men in the 70th minute when Ben Jackson saw a straight red for a bad foul.
Now faced with a man-for-man advantage, City kept pushing on as they looked for their second goal, but couldn't quite find the clinical finish needed to get themselves back into the game.
Keeping City to just one goal and holding onto their lead by the full time whistle, the Seagulls saw all three points kept on the south coast, leaving the Canaries travelling back to Norfolk empty-handed.
